Two major food and leisure chains are planning developments in Bradford which between them will create 90 jobs.

The Whitbread Group plc, owners of the national Pizza Hut chain, will create 50 jobs when it opens a new city centre restaurant at a cost of £587,000.

A Pizza Hut spokesman said: "Bradford's Pizza Hut is one of 40 Pizza Hut restaurants that are being opened in 2001/2 and will bring the total to over 470 restaurants in the UK."

Bar and club chain Inventive Leisure plc, meanwhile, has ploughed £700,000 into one of its Revolution bars based on a corner of the multi-million pound leisure centre in Glydegate.

Due to open next June, the 4,000 sq ft club plans to employ a 40-strong workforce, with ten full-time workers and 30 part-time staff.

Neil Macleod, development director with Inventive, which opened its first Revolution bar in Manchester in 1996, said: "We are opening on a corner site of this prestigious new development and it's going to be a late-night venue, open until 2am and featuring a full vodka bar.

"It will also have an entertainment section and a dancing area featuring DJs. It will be an exciting new night-time attraction for Bradford."

Licensing magistrates granted a drinks licence to Inventive in March.

Whitbread's new Pizza Hut development is part of a £4.6 million investment drive in Yorkshire over the next six months. As part of the push, the company is also to spend £10,000 refurbishing its Brewers Fayre family pub in Mirfield.

Whitbread's Yorkshire spokesman, Tom Bramley, said: "We are now operating in three major growth markets - hotels, restaurants and active leisure.

"We remain committed to creating job opportunities within Yorkshire and attracting new talent into the leisure industry."
