CAUTIOUS backing has been given to the
residential conversion of a former brewery training centre in Otley.
Concerns over a well used right of way and future conversions of other redundant buildings at Ashfield House stopped councillors from giving their complete approval.
The scheme involves the conversion of the Georgian Grade Two listed Ashfield House in Weston Lane to six homes, the conversion of two outbuildings to two more homes and the building of one new house.
Planning officers at Tuesday's meeting of Leeds City Council's Development Control Panel (West) said they did not rule out the possibility of a maximum of three more conversions of agricultural buildings on the site.
Members called for the application to come back to their December meeting for access details around Green Lane to be tightened up.
Councillor Phil Coyne (Lab, Otley and Wharfedale) said it was an important site and he was concerned about any possible restriction to Green Lane - a route well used by people from the Weston Estate to get to the town.
He said he thought a solution would be for a footpath to be created alongside Green Lane.
l Plans to build a Tesco Express store at New Road Side, Horsforth would have an adverse effect on other shops in the area, say councillors.
The scheme, which has now gone to appeal to the Secretary of State, would also be out of character in the area.
Councillors were told that Tesco had failed to provide information backing the need for a store at the site.
School concerns have stopped a Morrison's Supermarket plan to build a petrol filling station in Yeadon.
The supermarket chain had wanted to build a station with shop at Harper Lane, but nearby schools were concerned about the likely increase in traffic.
And at Tuesday's plans meeting chairman Councillor Malcolm Bedford said he shared serious concerns about traffic congestion in the area.
"I am really concerned about the traffic that would come out of this site and onto the main road directly opposite the school," he said.
l A detached stables and store at Moor Road, Bramhope, has been given planning permission - with the added condition that events be held only five days every year.
Councillors had been concerned that the plan at the former equestrian centre could lead to an unacceptable number of events being held which would mean extra noise and traffic congestion.
l A scheme to build 12 houses and six flats off Old Pool Bank, Pool-in-Wharfedale, has been put on ice for councillors to visit the site.
The scheme, which already has outline planning permission, was deferred for a site visit following concerns from councillors about building on the green belt.
l An illuminated box sign and free standing non-illuminated sign outside The Suburban Style Bar in Bridge Street, Otley, has been refused planning permission.
The signs are out of character and intrusive in the Conservation Area, said the planning panel.
