Golcar 2
Otley Town 3
OTLEY Town travelled to Golcar, near Huddersfield for this League Cup match and quickly stamped their authority on the game after a long throw from Lee Grice was flicked on for Joe Lunn to volley home to put the visitors into the lead.
The Otley boys, now full of running, stretched their lead, when after a Golcar corner, a cleared ball was held up by Graham Hutchinson in his own half and he laid off a neat pass to the sprinting James Firth who beat two defenders with his pace and struck the ball in off the post.
After half-time Golcar made a comeback with both goals coming when the Otley side were looking to add to their tally. Their first came when play broke down on the half-way line and the Otley defenders were stretched. The second came, with Otley playing the off-side trap; a Golcar midfield player ran through and scored, with the linesman ignoring the defence's calls.
With the game now in the balance, Town pressed again and with about five minutes to go, a long free-kick from goalkeeper Syd Neale, found Dean Wagstaff whose volley-cross picked out Firth who headed into the bottom corner for what proved to be the winner.

Thirsk 1
Thirsk were the visitors to the Old Showfield this week and although a team from a lower division, they proved to be a hard nut for the Premier Division side to crack.
The first-half although dominated by the Otley side produced some very sloppy football, with Kirkpatrick, Budden and Johnson going the closest, all with long-range shots.
Thirsk took the lead just before half-time when, after defensive errors that should have been cleared twice, they were punished by a lone Thirsk attacker.
The second-half saw a more cohesive game from the Otley team and a sigh of relief went around the ground when Dale Gilmartin headed the equaliser into the top corner. It was all one-way traffic now with the home team applying the pressure and after a good passing down the right, Richard Hawley put in a good cross, which was met by Wolfenden, whose well controlled header landed in the path of a Johnson. He smashed the ball into the net.
Thirsk threatened then to make a come back but the third Otley goal quickly put an end to the game. A speculative through ball saw Johnson run through from midfield and he should have had no chance of getting to the ball.
As the Thirsk goalkeeper came out to clear, he took his eye off the ball, which bobbled just in front of him. Johnson ran past him, taking the ball from under the keeper's feet and could have scored himself but unselfishly, passed the ball to John Barber who tapped the ball over the line.

Otley Town A 3
Town A obtained their first away point of the season, in a game they should have won by a mile but in the end were happy with a draw.
Town went 1-0 up inside the first minute, when Dave Ryan muscled his way past two defenders down the right, cut in and hammered a left foot shot past the startled 'keeper.
Deighton levelled the score immediately when their nippy little striker hit a shot which beat Town 'keeper Kilmurray at his near post.
Deighton then took the lead with another quick break and good finish but Town could have been well clear if Wain, Ryan and Alderson had converted the simple chances they had.
Deighton went further ahead after poor defensive work from a corner, enabled one of their players to bundle the ball home.
Just before half-time, after good work by Ryan again down the right, his cross was met on the volley by Alderson to bring Town back into contention at 3-2.
Deighton started the second-half brightly but were unable to capitalise and Town got stronger as the game wore on.
The home linesman arm must have been tired the amount of times he raised his flag for off-side against Town's attackers and Town were deeply unhappy when Tom Crombleholme ran clear from inside his own half and with only the 'keeper to beat was brought back by the referee, when once again the linesman ruled offside.
This spurred Town into acton and Deighton were beginning to hang-on desperately, conceding a number of free- kicks. From one Chris Wain's shot bent and dipped over the wall only to hit the angle of post and bar. The pressure eventually told when a Town corner was whipped-in by Wain and Morgan finished from close range to level at 3-3.
Town should have sealed a win when Ryan was put through one-on-one with the 'keeper but he had so much time that his indecision allowed the 'keeper to block his shot and then Kilmurray in the Town goal made two fine saves as Deighton hit back on the counter and the game ended in a draw.
