Bradford's new £160,000 Whetley Hill day centre for the disabled is opening its doors to the public for the first time on Saturday. The centre which opened in April is used by more than 150 handicapped people from all over the city every day. Its aim is to encourage people with all kinds of handicaps to get the best out of life but still keep their independence.

Stocks of house coal in Bradford are equal to only about one and a half weeks' consumption and about half of those put down at the start of last winter, Mr. J.W. Pratt, Bradford Fuel Overseer, told the Telegraph & Argus today. "We are praying for a winter free from snow and free from fog."
