A scheme matching disabled people with work vacancies is celebrating its 20th placement after six weeks of operation.

Remploy's Interwork division has secured the jobs for clients thanks to a grant for Bradford from the government's New Deal for Disabled People (NDDP).

Remploy Interwork is part of a national organisation, founded in 1945, dedicated to developing opportunities for disabled.

It works in close partnership with employers and the disabled to support over 11,000 people in jobs ranging from manual labour to professional careers and management.

Employment development manager Pat Padgett said she was encouraged by the fact all those who had enquired about the scheme in its six weeks had registered to find out more.

She said: "The programme includes profiling of skills, abilities and interests followed by entry into a tailored development programme which involves training for work, where necessary.

"The scheme aims to help people on a range of disability-linked benefits who want to work, find, apply for and settle into a job.

"We would be delighted to hear from anyone who thinks they might benefit from the scheme."

Remploy supplies half the FTSE 100 companies with staff while employing over 6,000 people in its own factories.

The success of its scheme coincides with the launch of another NDDP-funded project, Disability@Work, launched in Bradford last month to bring together private and public sectors for the benefit of disabled people.

Among those involved are Abbey National, Bradford Council, Bradford NHS Hospital Trust and the Asian Disability Network.

It has received funding from the government and aims to offer help to about 30 people a month. For details on Remploy Interwork ring Gabrielle Cairns on (0113) 272 6970 or the national line on (0845) 845 2244.
