If Bradford did not need more shops, the site of the city's old Exchange Station could be used for housing, said Bradford Metropolitan Council's chief planning officer Arthur Holliday. He told members of Bradford Chamber of Trade that the site could be used for multi-storey accommodation for single people or childless couples.

Shopkeepers in the Westgate district are in disagreement with certain members of Bradford Council who yesterday referred to the area as a deteriorating one. Because they regard the site as a decaying area, the Corporation Finance Estimates Sub-committee turned down a proposal that a number of shops in Westgate be demolished and replaced by a building which could eventually be extended to four-storeys high.
