Keighley's number one Pool team - Pilky's A - have become one of the dominating forces of British amateur sport.

Tonight they will be presented with the Premiership title of the Keighley & District Pool League for the 10th successive season -- and they did it in style.

The team completed an incredible third 'treble' by winning their 10th league cup and sixth Harry Cole Cup to go with the championship title. They now want to know if any other team, in any sport, has been so dominant over such a long period.

"It has been 10 years of incredible success and we have also enjoyed some good times in national competitions," said team captain Lee Vause.

Over the past decade they have taken on every local team, and also stretched their wings to challenge teams from across the country, and the standard of the local game has improved year after year.

The Pilky's team has also produced a World Champion in Chris Melling, who started playing at the Keighley in his early teens. He went on to help the team to many of their local titles before turning professional.

He has since played pool around the globe, travelling to Las Vegas, around Europe and even to Beijing, the capital of China, as he became a major star of pool tournaments world wide.

Pilky's team started out in the fourth division of the local league in 1987 when they played as Imperial A. Nearly 15 years later there are still three members of the original squad in the team, Glen Pilkington, Mark Pilkington and Darren Vause were in the 2001 championship line-up.

Back in the 80's they won the league at their first attempt, a feat never achieved before by a team making its debut, and since then they have developed into an awesome 'winning machine' with a record that is hard to believe.

In 1991 Lee Vause, who had played for the team for about two years, took over as captain and guided them to their first Premiership victory.

Nine more Premiership titles, 16 cups and three trebles later Pilky's are still going strong and show no signs of stopping. However, the standard of pool in Keighley is steadily improving and new World rules mean the game is increasing in popularity, other teams growing in confidence as they take on the Pilky's squad.

Their record so far speaks for itself - but could they possibly be at the top for another 10 years?

"It will certainly take some doing, but the team is still in top form and it will take a very good team to knock us off top spot," Lee Vause said.
