Chris Caisley has reiterated that his worldwide wish for rugby league remains unchanged in the light of Bradford Bulls' takeover of Wakefield Rugby Union Club.

The Bulls chairman said: "So far as rugby league and the Bradford Bulls is concerned, people will be aware of my personal wish that the top clubs in the UK, including the Bulls, form part of a global league competition against the top Australian clubs, and I still believe this is the way to go for the long-term benefit of the clubs, our players and supporters, and for the sport worldwide."

Caisley added that there were many reasons for the Bulls to be proud of their standing in the sport.

"We are the Super League champions, are the flagship club in that elite, and are preparing to face Newcastle Knights in the World Club Championship on February 1.

"Also we have won the Challenge Cup, been losing finalists in that three times, and were also Grand Final runners-up in 1997, and have always finished in the top five."

"In addition, we have an excellent fan base - including the best away support in Super League - a top-notch junior development scheme, and the Bulls Connection, which involves 79 amateur clubs throughout the country. Also we have an award-winning website and marketing department, and are second to none in our rugby coaching and strength conditioning."

Caisley added: "What is important to me and my fellow directors at the Bulls is that our supporters understand and receive assurances in relation to how this deal benefits us.

"We are only bringing Wakefield into our fold with a determination to take the club as far as we can - hopefully, into union's Premiership."
