A man was dragged along at the side of a car as he tried to get back his mobile phone, which was snatched by robbers.
A front seat passenger in the car had grabbed the phone and the driver sped off, pulling the man along.
Keighley police say the victim suffered a bruised forehead but he could have suffered more serious injuries.
Detective Inspector Trevor Gasson said someone in the car asked the man for directions after it stopped in Nab Wood Terrace, Shipley, at 1am on New Year's Day.
"The victim had been using his mobile phone.
"He was asked for directions and approached the car and bent towards the window when his mobile phone was grabbed.
"He leant further in to grab it back and was punched. The car drove off with him hanging out of the window."
The red car contained four Asian men in their 20s.
Anyone with information about the incident should telephone Detective Constable Paul Keitch on (01535) 617085.
