Detectives have stepped up the hunt for the murderer of Bradford auto-electrician Brian Hardwick.
Officers stopped and spoke to shoppers using a supermarket cash machine, pictured, where Mr Hardwick's bank card had been used on the night of his killing.
The police team leading the investigation arranged the high profile operation after revealing it had been disappointed with the public's initial response to their appeals for information.
Yesterday, officers were posted at the Asda superstore in Bradford Road, Huddersfield, where the 50-year-old's Yorkshire Bank card was last used at 6.15pm November 22 - shortly after he was shot dead at the garage where he worked.
Police talked to regular shoppers using the machine last night to see if they could jog their memories about the night of Mr Hardwick's death when the thief had tried three times to withdraw money.
Yesterday also marked the start of a poster campaign, appealing for anyone with information on the fatal shooting to come forward, which has been displayed on buses and public buildings in Kirklees and Bradford.
Mr Hardwick was discovered dead with two bullet wounds, in his head and chest, at Huddersfield Car Elect-ricals in Colne Road, in the early hours of November 22.
He was last seen alive at 5.35pm the previous day, by work colleagues.
Mr Hardwick had been washing his hands ready to leave, but then brought his car back into the premises to change a flat tyre.
One theory is that Mr Hardwick's killer may have deliberately punctured his tyre to delay him and the garage - and provide the opportunity to kill him.
Mr Hardwick's widow Lynne, who had married the Wild West enthusiast six months earlier, said: "It was such a senseless killing - Brian was such a loving, quiet person who got on with everyone."
