Keighley motorists are being urged to carry out some simple safety checks to ensure their vehicle can cope with the ravages of winter.
Gary Stevenson, dealer principal at Sunwin Peugeot, in Keighley, said: "Motorists should follow a few simple procedures to keep their cars in top condition and avoid problems in the colder months.
"Keeping a winter car kit inside your vehicle will also help -- anti-freeze for the windscreen, spare bulbs, jump leads, a scraper, warm clothing and the all important torch will ensure you are prepared should anything happen."
Advice includes:
* Tyres must be checked for tread depth and to ensure there are no cuts or cracks deep enough to reach the ply or cords
* Tyre pressure must be kept at recommended levels -- over or under inflation can lead to accidents
* Check windscreen wipers for wear and tear and ensure the water includes a screen wash to prevent freezing
* Check that all lights and heating systems are working correctly, including the rear window for effective demisting
* Anti-freeze should be changed every two years. Always use the correct type for your car
* Prevent locks from freezing with a damp-inhibitor spray.
