Keighley suffered snow and sub-zero temperatures this week... it's no wonder the town's mascot Cliff is thinking of summer.

He ventured into the cold to check how work was progressing on the new site for Children's Festival activities.

He was delighted to find the paved area next to the bus station post office would be ready in good time.

Work on the bus station is due to finish over the next few weeks, several months before the five-week summer jamboree starts.

Cliff, who helps promote Keighley, revealed that the festival - now in its fourth year - would feature nine days of Fridays and Saturday activities.

The festival will begin as usual with an under-fives day on July 19, just before schools break up, and close with the annual Seaside Day on August 17.

There will be special entertainment on the morning of Keighley Gala, which is being moved to August 3 to avoid the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Other days packed with street entertainment, workshops and activities are on July 26, 27, August 2, 9, 10 and 16.

The Children's Festival is aimed at bringing outsiders into Keighley while helping local families fill the long summer holidays.

People from around Yorkshire regularly make day trips to Keighley after seeing leaflets about the festival.

One family in Liverpool phoned up to find out this year's dates so they could book their annual holidays around it.

This year's festival will be the last to receive funding from Keighley's £18.7 million Single Regeneration Budget.

Keighley's town centre management team, which organises the festival, is looking for alternative sources of funding for future years.
