Nicky Law today stressed: "I won't turn the Bantams into Chesterfield City."

The new Valley Parade boss is still finding his feet after being given the job five days ago. But inevitably he is already being linked with players from his former club.

Centre-half Ian Breckin is the shining light at Saltergate and the most likely target if transfer money is made available. But Law made it clear he does not plan to recruit his old team lock, stock and barrel.

Law said: "Ian is a very good player who would be able to step up a grade. He's 25 which is a good age and time is about right for him if it was a consideration.

"I know a couple of other clubs have been looking at him but we'll just have to wait and see. I'm not saying we will do anything.

"There isn't going to be a mass sortie of Chesterfield players. Bradford is not suddenly going to become Chesterfield City FC.

"I left behind some good players who I feel couldn't step up but perhaps there are one or two who would enhance this club. You are only going to bring in people you feel will make the team better, not just because you worked with them before.

"It's only fair that the players here now are given a chance first. We haven't got lots of time to put it right but I need to have a good look at them."

City's players were given a day off today after the FA Cup tie at Walsall fell victim to the frozen weather. But Law took the opportunity to watch Barnsley play Blackburn at Oakwell.

He said: "We've got Barnsley in a couple of weeks so it was a good chance to watch them. I gave the players a bit of a break and hopefully the thaw will allow us to start training properly on Monday."

The third-round game at Walsall has been moved to Tuesday night. Any replay would take place at Valley Parade on January 15.
