Bradford supermarket boss Sir Ken Morrison is richer than the Queen and the owner of Harrods, it was claimed.
A 'Rich List' of the UK's wealthiest 300 people ranks Sir Ken Morrison, chairman of the FTSE-100 company, above football-mad Egyptian tycoon Mohamed Al Fayed, owner of Harrods, and Her Majesty the Queen.
Sir Ken's value is estimated at £1.35 billion in the Sunday newspaper list, and praises a work ethic which has seen his company grow into a 105 store, £3.2 billion enterprise.
Joining the firm in 1952, when it was only a market stall run by his father, the 70-year-old still puts in a six-day week and occasionally does a shift on the shop floor.
His own stake in Morrisons amounts to £1.25 billion, and he has £100 million of personal property and other assets, according to the list.
Motor racing supremo Bernie Ecclestone, with an estimated personal fortune of £3.2 billion, topped the wealth chart. The F1 boss, who negotiates the sport's TV and circuit contracts, has sold £2.4 billion of shares over the past two years and owns a private jet and super yacht.
Sir Ken's supermarket competitor Lord Sainsbury is even richer, with an estimated wealth of £2.2 billion.
But Sir Ken is also wealthier than Sir Paul McCartney, who is 11th according to the list, and the Queen, just 45th on the list, who is worth £450 million.
