Shipley cyclist Chris Young of Team Marie Curie finished fifth in the Macclesfield Supacross on Sunday - and said it was his best performance in what has been a disappointing season for him.
Young got off to a good start and was with the leaders early on until he got tangled up in the tape marking the course.
Later he punctured after falling back through the field.
But he went on to finish fifth as two more former national champions fought out the finish. In the end, Nick Craig (Pertex) emerged the winner ahead of Barrie Clarke (Helly Hansen) with Paul Dixon (Team Y2K) in third place. Young went on to finish fifth.
The Shipley rider missed the final round of the Yorkshire Points Championship promoted by Seacroft Wheelers at Temple Newsome Park, Leeds.
There, Noel Clough (Pete Read Racing) emerged the winner for his fifth win out of the six Yorkshire Points events.
Clough won from Matt Bailey (Team Chevin) and Danny Bedford (Huddersfield Star Wheelers). Robin Bradbury (Aire Valley Cycles) finished sixth with Bradford rider Rob Thackray (Paul Milnes RT) in seventh place.
This is the second time in three years that Clough has won the Yorkshire Points competition.
