Road-safety campaigners have given the thumbs-down to the idea of putting traffic lights at the junction of Skipton Road and Victoria Avenue, Ilkley.
The idea was put forward as one way to improve traffic flows in the town as part of the £1m traffic improvements suggested by consultants Oscar Faber.
After studying proposals by the consultants employed by Bradford Council, the Ilkley and District Road Safety Committee said that traffic lights at the junction would 'not be an advantage'.
Members thought the lights would make it easier for vehicles to turn right and increase 'rat-running' through the residential areas of the town.
The committee also wants the on-street parking to be left as it is because a ban would create major difficulties for people living in terraced houses with no alternative parking spaces.
The committee also wants measures put in to deal with the extra traffic generated by the opening of the new All Saints School on the Skipton Road site.
