Bradford Park Avenue 5, Whitby Town 0 - Bradford Park Avenue stunned their Premier Division rivals Whitby Town with a five star performance to top the UniBond Challenge Cup qualifying group with their one hundred per cent record intact.

Manager Trevor Storton does not breed mediocre teams and Avenue went all out for the result against a full-strength Whitby side.

Their reward was first place in the group and a quarter-final meeting a fortnight on Saturday at Horsfall Stadium with either Blyth Spartans or Spennymoor United.

Last night's hero was Dean Calcutt who netted a hat-trick thanks to a late double. However, his input was augmented by Jason Maxwell, who came on as a second half substitute to score with his first touch, and Lee Potter who struck on his home debut.

It was Potter's persistence that led to Avenue's first goal after just ten minutes. He raced in to close the visitor's keeper Phil Naisbett down and his hurried clearance fell for Calcutt who drilled in a shot from the edge of the area that took a slight deflection on its way into the net.

Eight minutes into the second half Potter marked his first appearance at Horsfall with a goal. He cut into the area from the left and though he was driven away from goal he netted with a shot from the corner of the six yard box into the opposite corner.

Calcutt was brought down by Naisbett, who escaped with a yellow card, in the 75th minute. Lindley tapped the free kick to Calcutt and he scored with a curling shot round the wall.

With five minutes left Calcutt turned in an even better effort. Picking up possession midway inside the visitors half he went on a solo run, slaloming round several lunges, to thump home a shot to beat the keeper.
