Otley Town U-13s 8
Eldwick U-13s 0
OTLEY Town Under-13s saw in the New Year with a home game against Eldwick in very unpleasant conditions.
As one of only a few games to go ahead over the weekend Otley gave their Craven Aire and Wharfe Junior League title hopes a big boost with an emphatic win over a struggling Eldwick.
The first-half saw Otley scoring as regular as clockwork. Every five minutes they produced a goal to give them a six goal advantage at the break.
The first three goals came from Town centre-forward Jim McGlinchey. Each time he received the ball he found himself one-on-one with the Eldwick 'keeper and he picked his spot to perfection.
As early as 20 minutes into the game Town were able introduce all their substitutes and Kieran Doyle with his first touch fired the ball home from close range.
After 25 minutes midfielder Sam Webster used his strength to keep two Eldwick defenders at bay and managed to lift the ball out of the mud and into the net for Town's fifth.
Just before the break Town got their last of the half with a fine strike from Danny Woolliscroft, giving the Eldwick 'keeper no chance.
The second-half saw many changes. There was a different 'keeper for Eldwick and for Otley defenders switched positions to become attackers.
Town's captain Thomas Piercy ventured forward and struck a superb volley from a Richard Brown corner to give Town a 7-0 lead.
Midway through the second-half Danny Woolliscroft netted his second of the game and Town's final goal with another goalmouth scramble.
Two players unaffected by the cold were Richard Robinson and Adam Mudd who both turned in excellent performances over the 70 minutes.
Town's Man-of-the-Match was Richard Robinson. In the Craven Aire and Wharfe Junior League Under-12 section A Menston Hotshots had a resounding 6-0 home win over near neighbours Guiseley.
In the Under-11s Section B Menston Hotshots went down 4-1 at home to Queensbury.
