Skipton T U-16s 3
Baildon Trinity 2
In a game played sportingly in difficult conditions, Baildon Trinity Under-16s finally lost out to a late winner.
The first-half saw the visitors come to terms with a soft surface covering a rock hard ground much the quicker and they took the game to Skipton.
Chances came and went as Baildon piled on the pressure with Scott Marsden and Andy Padgett prominent in midfield.
Eventually Chris Reardon got clear in the penalty area and put Baildon ahead with a firm shot.
However, their failure to convert pressure into goals was to prove costly and just before half-time Skipton equalised against an uncertain Baildon rearguard.
The second-half started evenly but Skipton gradually began to get on top as the Baildon midfield tired. Gaps began to appear at the back and Skipton were awarded a penalty for a foul from behind by Gavin Donoghue.
However, Baildon 'keeper Danny Morton kept up his reputation for saving penalties by diving smartly to his left to block the kick which was cleared by Ben Moncaster for a corner.
Still Baildon lived dangerously at the back and ten minutes from time Skipton took the lead.
Just minutes later Reardon latched on to a through ball to plant a firm shot into the net for the equaliser and that looked it. However, just before the whistle a fine cross from the left was bundled into the Baildon net to give Skipton the points.
This was a fine game, well refereed, and enjoyed by all.
