A family of six injured when their Honda Civic was in collision with a stolen car were on their way home from a wedding reception in Bradford, it was revealed today.
Five people were cut free from the mangled wreckage of the Honda Civic after it was in collision with a stolen silver Vauxhall Cavalier at the junction of Horton Grange Road and Ingleby Road at Lidget Green.
The family had been returning from the wedding celebration when the accident happened at 9pm on Tuesday.
Imran Khan, 22, was driving the car with his mother Arsha Bibi, a passenger, and his seven-year-old brother Idnan, all of Kensington Street, Girlington, in the back. Their relative Zahida Bibi and her daughters Sobir, 18 and Sonia, 14, of Westfield Road, Manningham, were also in the car.
Ifran Khan, 20, received a call on his mobile from one of his friends and rushed to the scene to help his family.
He said: "I thought it must be a bump but one of the lads told me it was more serious. When I looked at the car I was in shock, I thought no one was going to survive. My brother was holding my mother and kissing her hand to try to calm her down. Even though he was injured as well he was looking after my mother.
"The firefighters did a brilliant job and the police and ambulance services arrived very quickly. My friend Navid who was in the car following was asking everyone to pray and keep away from the car. I would like to thank them all."
Mr Khan said he believes the physical size of the engine in the car, which his brother bought nine months ago, had saved them from more serious injury when the car crumpled.
A man in his 20s who was in the Cavalier was in a "comfortable" condition in Bradford Royal Infirmary.
Two other passengers, a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, suffered superficial injuries and were arrested and questioned before being released on bail pending further police inquiries.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who saw the vehicles before the crash to contact them on (01274) 376247.
