Bradford police officers talked a man down from the bridge from which he was threatening to jump this morning.
They were alerted to the man, who had climbed on to the Queen's Road bridge crossing Canal Road in Bradford at around 4am today.
A force spokesman said: "On arrival we found a man threatening to jump from the bridge. By 4.50am he was brought down safely and later detained under the Mental Health Act."
