An armed raider snatched a fist full of cash after threatening an off-licence cashier with a knife.
The hooded robber struck at Threshers on Kirkgate at 8.10pm on Thursday.
Peter Krushniak, Neighbourhood Watch officer for Weetwood police, said the man had asked the female cashier for a packet of cigarettes.
He said: "She got the cigarettes and when she turned back round the man was pointing a knife at her. It was up his sleeve but she could see the blade sticking out.
"He demanded cash from the till and helped himself to the money before running out of the shop.''
The man is described as white, 5ft 10in, aged 27.
He was wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt beneath his jacket, a baseball cap under the hood, dark blue jeans and white trainers.
Anyone with information about the robbery should call Weetwood police on (0113) 2413 459.
