A Bradford man who attempted to break into a garage by cutting a hole in a door was jailed for 17 weeks.
Carl Richardson, 26, of Cutler Heights Lane, pleaded guilty to attempted burglary, possessing cannabis resin, failure to surrender to court, and two charges of going equipped for theft.
Prosecutor Julian Briggs said last June Richardson had attempted to break into the garage of a house in Bradford Road, Gomersal. He cut a hole in the door, causing £400 worth of damage, but did not enter the garage. Nothing was stolen.
On the evening of July 5 last year, Richardson was seen acting suspiciously near a shed in Birkenshaw. He was challenged but fled, dropping a screwdriver, torch and mobile phone.
When arrested Richardson admitted going out with equipment intending to steal.
David Orbaum, defending, said that after failing to attend court on January 7 for another matter, Richardson had handed himself in to police on January 10.
