A well-known Bradford historian is considering quitting the city because he says he is a victim of the Manningham postcode after moving just 100 metres to a new home.
Andrew Bolt was horrified to find his car insurance premium almost doubled after he moved to Daisy Hill, Bradford, which lies in the same postal zone as some of the worst summer rioting.
He claims advisers at three insurance companies told him the increase is due to the troubles - even though they publicly say premiums in BD9 have not changed since July's violence.
Mr Bolt, 31, claims his annual premium with Direct Line for both his 4x4 jeep and his fiance's hatchback has leapt from £350 to £737. He said some companies' quotes were as high as £800.
Mr Bolt, of Hazelhurst Road, said he has no driving convictions and has not made a claim in nine years. He is now considering quitting the area for good.
"I never did anything to increase my premium but I know a few yobs who did," he said. "It is so unfair that we are paying for other people's mistakes. I have been committed to Bradford for years, but now I am so disgusted I've started wondering why.
"How many other people will receive a bill like this because of one night of lunacy? How many will have to sell their car because they just can't afford to insure it?
"Some rioters are let off with small fines and we are the ones having to fork out."
"I think the insurance companies need to change the system. It is not fair to bracket everybody in the same postcode together," said Mr Bolt, whose previous address was in Allerton's postal boundary of BD15.
"I live about two miles away from where the trouble was. A lot of people are going to have quite a shock when they receive their new insurance premiums."
A spokesman for insurers Admiral said Manningham was in the high-risk category 17, the highest being 24, but he said premiums have not risen since the summer.
"We regard the riots as a one-off. Obviously if they became a regular occurrence we would look at it again,"he said.
Amy Rotheram, spokesman of the Green Flag Group, said her group also had no plans to put up car insurance premiums.
However, Dominic Burch, spokesman for Mr Bolt's insurers Direct Line motor insurance, admitted that damage caused to vehicles during the riots could have an indirect impact on premiums.
