Queensbury gave high-flying Conference Division Two leaders Hunslet Warriors the fright of their lives before being overcome 13-8.
Bury tackled like demons and were leading with twenty minutes to go thanks to a Carl Smith penalty for ball stealing.
They were put constantly under the cosh as Hunslet tried everything in the book to cross. Bury suffered a blow when stand-off Lee Charlton was sin-binned for holding down.
Then the Warriors took the lead in the 70th minute when a lucky rebound presented them with a converted touchdown and the full-back Frank Lapping repeated the dose to move 12-2 in front.
Bury showed their fighting spirit when full-back Steve Eyles finished off a seven-man handling bout to cross at the sticks. Smith added the extras but time was against them and Hunslet posted a late drop goal in injury time - much to their relief.
Victoria Rangers proved they can compete against the best by taking another Conference Division Two side all the way to the wire.
The Vics were first on the scoreboard at home to Castleford Panthers when loose-forward Kenny Smith crossed and player-coach Phil Hellewell converted.
Scrum-half Mick Faulding then added a second to which Hellewell made sure of the extras. He continued his form with the boot with a drop goal and a penalty to give his side a 15-12 half time advantage.
The Panthers scored straight from the restart when the Vics made a hash of fielding the deep kick off to present them with an easy converted try under the sticks.
Hellewell chipped back the arrears with a penalty but the Castleford outfit replied in kind with a touchdown in the corner.
Substitute-forward Dave Newhall ran 30 metres for a splendid effort to make the score 21-22 - and a shock result looked to be going Vic's way.
But a harsh penalty eased the Panthers worries and gave them the spoils. Centre Tony Fretwell and pack-man John Beanland were outstanding for the plucky losers.
Clayton coach Paul Gill was more than pleased with his side's splendid performance at Bilton Sullys despite being on the wrong end of a 34-6 defeat.
The Villagers were trailing 18-0 at the break but completed a twenty minute purple patch on the resumption with a try from prop Chris Parkinson - converted by hooker Peter Milnes - without reply.
A hamstring injury to loose-forward Richard Wood however put the brakes on the revival and the Hull side pulled away to win with a canter.
Clayton put together some nice touches from forwards Richard Murgatroyd and Craig Pickthall.
Yorkshire Cup finalists Sharlston Rovers proved to be too strong ending Birkenshaw's cup hopes 36-12.
Keighley Town lost 38-14 at home to Kippax. They trailed 22-2 at half time but kept the second half more even with tries from Andy Stokes and Adam Dix.
l In the Pennine Division One match of the day West Bowling A won the top-of-the-table clash 21-18 at home to St Josephs.
Tries from Steve Gregory and Lee Hunter plus two conversions from Craig Hillam enabled them to change ends 12-7 up. Scrum-half James Dewhirst scored the vital second-half match-winning try. Hillam hit two goals and a drop goal.
Hooker Shah Basha worked tirelessly to earn the man of the match award.
In Division Two Odsal Sedbergh scored their highest total of the season by beating Dudley Hill Eagles 104-0, whilst West Bowling B made it a treble for the club winning 17-26 at Watersheddings. Anthony Green (3) Steve Carter (2) and Bob Howe scored the tries.
