Many motorists (and their passengers ) caught in the big traffic jam in Thursday's heavy snowfall had hangovers and varying degrees of illness afterwards. They were the victims of another, invisible danger - carbon monoxide poisoning from the exhaust fumes of the thousands of vehicles in traffic jams in and around the city centre.

Early starters in the Bradford and District Union of Golf Clubs' four ball bogey competition at St. Ives today found the 5,600 yard course blanketed in a mantle of snow and hailstorms, as a result of which play was held up for an hour and a half. Twenty four teams - comprising 48 players - took part in the event, played over 26 holes.
