Police were today set to name two men wanted for questioning in connection with the murder of Kevin Jackson, killed after chasing two suspected car thieves.

Mr Jackson, 31, was stabbed in the head and severely beaten in Copley Lane, Halifax, on December 30. He died on New Year's Day.

Shortly after the murder, West Yorkshire Police arrested one man in Manningham and issued warrants for the arrest of two other men from Bradford in connection with the investigation.

Today, officers were taking the "unusual step" of revealing the names and photographs of the wanted men.

Mr Jackson, a maintenance engineer, left two sons, one aged seven and one just 15 months, and a wife Julie, 33.

He was attacked after he saw two men allegedly trying to steal his father-in-law's Toyota RAV4 car in Lower Skircoat Green, Halifax.

During an emotional press conference held shortly after the murder took place, Mrs Jackson appealed for people to come forward with information. She hailed her husband a hero and recalled how she took her seven-year-old son to hospital to "kiss Daddy goodbye".
