Huddersfield 2, Bradford 5 - Bradford opened the second half of the hockey season as they ended the first - in winning ways.

They got revenge over a Huddersfield team that had beaten them earlier in the season 3-1.

Bradford were quick to find purpose and rhythm to their play.

Their speed of passing soon began to ask questions of the Huddersfield marking and cover play.

Within four minutes Jaspal Panesar drove the ball into the circle and won a penalty corner. This was duly converted by Sarup Panesar.

Huddersfield's reply was positive but floundered on a solid Bradford defence around the circle, which became a springboard for further Bradford pressure with wing-backs Paul Laver and Danny Isbeque commanding respect with their close support play.

Luther Brown was then sent free from a Backhouse pass and drawing the keeper he gave Jaspal Panesar, moving in behind the keeper, an easy finish.

Huddersfield fought back with determination and were unfortunate to see a well-worked move down the right denied by a brilliant save from Terry.

Howell in the Huddersfield goal did well to foil two further promising attacks from Bradford and Huddersfield almost reduced the arrears but for Ian Lettice clearing the ball from the line at a penalty corner.

Bradford at this stage rode their luck and transforming defence into attack they scored a third 26 minutes into the first half.

Backhouse received the ball on the half-way line, and, using his pace and skill to eliminate three Huddersfield players before passing to Jaspal Panesar in the circle to his left, Panesar's clever angled sweep shot beat the challenge of Howell to give the visitors a 3-0 advantage at half time.

The second half saw Bradford take the initiative and score a fourth only minutes after the restart.

Hammond, displaying good stick skill, entered the circle on the right, his shot was deflected off a defender's stick to Panesar.

Panesar's shot was then deflected past the keeper to give him his hat-trick and Bradford's fifth.

For the last 15 minutes the game flowed from end to end as Huddersfield pressed for a consolation.

Their persistence paid off and two goals came in the last six minutes as Bradford were caught thin in defence.
