ORGANISERS of a community gala in Pool-in-Wharfedale have decided not to incorporate Golden Jubilee celebrations into their own plans.
The organisers of Pool Feast, a tradition that dates back to the 18th century, contemplated the combination, but have decided that Golden Jubilee celebrations ought to be kept as a separate event.
Organiser Richard Downes said: "It was decided that the Feast would be a village event and would not be part of any Jubilee celebrations.
"This had already been decided previously, but after having received a Jubilee info pack from Pool Parish Council we briefly re-opened the discussion.
"At present any Jubilee celebrations will be left to individuals and individual groups to organise."
The Feast celebrations will include a pig on a spit, bouncy castle, brass band and marquee, but the Feast Committee are still looking for groups, organisations and societies who can provide stalls for fundraising.
The event will be held on Sunday June 23.
Mr Downes is hoping the event will lead to greater community spirit as well as giving a chance to welcome newcomers who have recently moved into the village on new housing developments.
The next meeting of the Feast Committee will be on Thursday, February 7 at 7.30pm in the Methodist Fellowship Room, Pool-in-Wharfedale and anyone interested in helping out is welcome to attend.
