A Bradford teenager is making a song and a dance of his appearance as an extra in one of the biggest Bollywood movies in history.

Faisal Khan, 19, has picked up a part as an extra in the Hindi epic, Kabhi Khushi Khabhie Gham (Sometimes Happiness, Sometimes Sorrow) alongside legends such as Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Kajol and Hrithik Roshan.

The film is the most expensive Hindi film ever made and has proved a massive hit since it went on general release.

The former pupil of Belle Vue Boys School, who wants to become a full-time actor, said it was an experience he will never forget. "It was fantastic, one of those once-in-a-lifetime things," he said. "Being in the film was brilliant in itself because it is such an epic, but to meet the mega-stars was unforgettable."

The film is set in India and is based around a patriarchal family, the head of whom insists on sticking to tradition rather than listening to his son and ends up losing him. The film then focusses on the younger brother who travels to London to try to unite the family.

Faisal, of Jasmin Terrace, Whetley Hill, travelled to London for filming after hearing of the chance to take part through acting contacts.

He said: "Everyone involved in it was great. Shah Rukh Khan was really friendly and chatty and so was Kajol.

"Probably the only one who was a little snooty was Kareena Kapoor. She wouldn't speak to any of the extras.

"But the nicest was Hrithik Roshan. He asked me where I was from. When I said Brad-ford, more than 200 miles away, he was shocked. He said 'Out of all these lot, you are the craziest'."

Faisal, a former pupil at Honey's Dance Academy in London, spent four days filming dance and club scenes. He is a member of the Alhambra Theatre youth group and has taken part in many school plays.

His proud mum has been to see the film, which lasts nearly four hours. "She was really pleased and proud," he said. "My dad wasn't too keen on me going into acting, but he knows I'm serious and my mum is behind me now."

Though he is largely self-taught in dance, Faisal attended the London Dance Academy which had 600 students in the film, but he is believed to be the only one from Bradford.

He has had bit parts in ITV drama Fat Friends and appeared in Crimewatch reconstructions.
