Ashley Ward today tipped Robbie Blake to be a smash hit with promotion-chasing Burnley.
Blake, currently sidelined with a stomach strain, was undergoing a medical at Turf Moor to finalise a move which will pocket City £1.25m if the Clarets are promoted.
And Ward has delivered a glowing reference for his 25-year-old strike partner who is City's 12-goal leading-scorer.
He said: "He's had a fantastic last two or three months, hitting top form and showing what a great player he is. I'm not surprised someone has come in. Robbie has still got plenty of football in front of him and looks a good investment for Burnley to buy. With his ability and his age, he is still young enough to make a big name for himself.
"He didn't really get a full go in the Premiership, particularly last year when he spent the first part of it on loan. I'm sure he would love another crack at it and he sees this as a great chance to go up and prove he can play at that level."
Blake, who has been offered a four-year deal, admitted it will be a wrench to leave Valley Parade. He said: "Nothing is signed and sealed yet but if I do go, I can look back on some good times.
"The Bradford fans have always been good to me - even in the two years when I had a lot of problems. I've been happy at the club and I think that's been shown this season because I've been playing regularly and scoring goals."
Stan Ternent, who had a rumoured £400,000 bid rejected last season, revealed he has been eyeing Blake since he was at Darlington and the Burnley boss was in charge of Bury.
"It's not a case of going back for him, I've always been interested," he said. "Robbie is good with his back to goal and confident on the ball."
Chesterfield's administrators Kidsons have dismissed City's £225,000 double bid for Ian Breckin and Jamie Burt as "derisory and worthy of no further comment."
The Spireites are expected to come out of administration, so City will be told to up their offer by the club.
City chairman Geoffrey Richmond said: "Chesterfield have rejected our offer. We'll have another look at it after the weekend."
