Skipton captain Declan Hayes is confident that his team can take another step towards Twickenham tomorrow in the Powergen Junior Cup at Millom if they can reproduce the form of last weekend, when they put Hemsworth to the sword,(writes Tony Simpson).
"I think if we play like that again, we'll hammer them," he says. "Last week's win was very important for us. We've had a few results in the league of late that weren't what we expected.
"Beating Hemsworth got us moving again on that front and now we want to make further headway in the cup. Last Saturday we proved that we can play well and destroy teams and if we repeat that level of performance, we'll be OK.
"Assessing the size of the challenge is very difficult given the make-up of the Cumbria league, but we've had Millom watched and the feedback is that if we play to our ability, we will win.
"Obviously the Hoylake defeat last year comes up, but that was different. We had had a lay-off after two or three easy games and we probably weren't as focused as we should have been.
"We aren't as relaxed for this game. We're confident because we've played well in a couple of games against tough opposition, but we're not being cocky. We have a job to do and we know it.
"What we want to avoid against anyone in the cup is a repeat of that feeling after Hoylake where you come away knowing that you haven't done yourself justice. My ambition is to get to Twickenham and I think we can, but if we get beaten by a better team and we've given it our best shot, then fair enough. Just so long as we've played to our best."
With promotion an unlikely equation, despite the top teams having a poor Saturday last week, the game becomes Skipton's most important match of the season to date.
To the victors will go the prize of a place in the quarter finals and the knowledge that another two wins will see them running out at Twickenham.
With Anthony Hill away on a skiing trip, Mike Beech slots into his favoured right wing berth in the only change to the starting line up from last week. He should be full of confidence following his two tries in the 20 minutes he played.
The extended bench sees Chris Howarth return from injury alongside Graham Newhouse, Neil King and Matt Wilson.
Skipton: G Heims, M Beech, A Maldera, A Porter, P Lacy, A Oldfield, D Brown, R Birks, D Hayes, P Jenkinson, A Winthrop, A Townsend, M Davison, I Scrivin, R Rauputu. Replacements: G Newhouse, N King, C Howarth, M Wilson
