It's disappointing to read yet another report that gives only one side of the situation in Bradford. Undoubtedly there might be some young people who feel disheartened, but that is hardly a secret.

After the events of last summer, and the various official reports which have arisen from it, we know all there is to know about why members of Bradford's younger generation feel disengaged from the community in which they are growing up.

The "Thwarted Dreams" survey carried out by the charity New Voice among a small number of people has come up with nothing new. The leader of the Council is right to be critical of its negative approach. As she says, it fails to look at the constructive things that are going on here.

The last thing we need is yet another survey that bangs the same old gloomy drum. Let's see, instead, one which reflects the positive things which have taken place in the past months.

There is, for instance, the plan to set up a Young People's Parliament at City Hall, to give the younger generation a real say in the way their city is run. And there is, too, the radical shake-up of the education system in the city - a system which, according to this new report, is blamed by many of those questioned for their lack of confidence in the future.

This report should not be allowed to bring depression to Bradford. It is out of date. The issues it raises are already being addressed as the city rises to the challenge of creating a better future for its citizens of tomorrow.
