One of the district's oldest residents has died on her 103rd birthday.
Gladys Foster was born in Shipley in 1899, and was the last surviving of five children.
Her parents, Fred and Mariah Foster, were Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Bradford from 1912-13. Her father was a prominent Bradford wool merchant and the family lived in Ferncliffe, Calverly, on an estate which is now part of the Leonard Cheshire home for disabled people.
Ms Foster never married, though she had eight nephews and nieces and 12 great nephews and nieces.
She regularly attended Saltaire United Reform Church and had a keen interest in the Girl Guides, becoming County Commissioner for West Yorkshire straight after the Second World War.
As a voluntary worker during the 1939-45 war, she drove ambulances in Bradford, commuting from her home in Eccleshill on her motorbike.
Nephew Chris Foster said: "One day on her way into Bradford her motorbike dived on the ice in Forster Square and she had to be rescued by the ambulance crew with whom she worked.
"We thought she would not survive but she did. And she was still here until her 103rd birthday."
A funeral will be held at Nab Wood Crematorium at 2pm on Wednesday.
