A pensioner on an early morning walk was beaten by a man with a pick-axe handle after refusing to hand over money.
The incident happened at 5.20am on Saturday as the 73-year-old man walked in Wellington Street in Bingley.
He was approached by two men outside the town's train station.
One man, armed with a pick-axe handle, demanded money and hit the pensioner several times about the body.
The pensioner was knocked to the ground and suffered minor bruising.
Both suspects, described as Asian, made off empty handed in a dark-coloured car.
The man carrying the pick-axe handle was 5ft 7ins tall, of stocky build, 30 years old, with a moustache, and wearing some form of head gear.
The second man was 5ft 9ins tall, of slim build, about 20 years old, wearing a dark sweatshirt and trousers.
