A fire at a Liversedge firm is believed to have been caused by an oven inside the premises.
Six fire crews from Cleckheaton, Batley, Dewsbury and Brighouse attended the incident at Maxi Storage in Wakefield Road, Liversedge yesterday, pictured.
The roof of the 40 metre by 60 metre single storey building was well alight when fire crews arrived at 8.15am. Part of Wakefield Road had to be closed to traffic until lunchtime and a diversion put in place while firefighters fought the blaze. Workers were evacuated. The managing director also visited the building to talk to firefighters and assess the damage.
A spokesman from Cleckheaton fire station said: "We believe an oven inside was responsible for the fire. One of the processes has obviously gone wrong and caused the roof to set alight.
"Access was awkward and we had to fight it from over the top and inside. The oven was extensively damaged and there was slight damage to the roof.
"Crews have been damping down. You could say it was a baptism of fire because we received the brand new command unit today and two minutes after we got it, it was out to this incident. The whole incident was controlled from the command unit which is like a large, mobile office. It came just at the right time!"
The fire is being treated as accidental.
