Keighley Technical College is to introduce English classes for Urdu and Punjabi speaking immigrants living in the town. Mrs Margaret Bradley, who is the head of languages at the centre, already organises about 30 tutors who teach English to immigrants in their homes but would like to extend the service on a formal basis to evening classes.

Between 200 and 300 telephones in Thornbury, Bradford were out of use today following five violent explosions in a manhole on Leeds Road last night which smashed 18 windows of the Thornbury Hotel. No one was hurt. The explosions were believed to have been caused by the short circuiting of the 500-volt trolley-bus cable outside the hotel. This melted the Leeds-Bradford telephone cable.
