Keighley town crier Michael Walton turned up in full regalia for tea with Bradford's Lord Mayor, Councillor Ghazanfer Khaliq, pictured, and a tour of City Hall.
Mr Walton, whose role dates back to the 1860s, has offered to help Coun Khaliq by introducing civic events.
Coun Khaliq said: "I was delighted to meet him because the town crier is such an important part of our history.
"I'm very grateful for his offer."
