Bradford Park Avenue 5, Bamber Bridge 2 - Park Avenue climbed to 14th in the UniBond Premier Division last night with a convincing home victory over struggling Bamber Bridge.
The Lancastrians set the Roses derby alight with a double inside five minutes to come back from 3-0 down - and they trailed by just one goal at the break.
Avenue can now go into Saturday's Challenge Cup quarter-final, at home to Blyth Spartans, fully focused on their cup aspirations knowing their league placing is healthy.
They began with such gusto it only took nine minutes for Avenue to ease in front.
A thunderous shot from centre back James Stansfield was headed off the line for a corner. The kick was dropped back into the danger zone and Avenue captain Mark Hancock netted a deflected shot.
The home side doubled their lead from the penalty spot in the 20th minute. Potter was tripped in the area by Simon Woodward and Martin James blasted in the spot kick.
Just three minutes later it was 3-0 after a string of passes found Wayne Benn who played the ball to Jason Maxwell who lifted a shot into the top corner.
Avenue killed the game as a contest in the 66th minute when they went 4-2 up thanks to a Potter goal.
And just into injury time Hayward re-claimed his leading scorer status with a close range header across the goal.
The future of Bradford Park Avenue will be decided at a public meeting at Horsfall Stadium at 7.30 tonight.
The financing and the location of the club will be discussed at a meeting to be chaired by chairman Frank Thornton.
