Trojans Reserves 2
Wellington 7
Burley Trojans Reserves' dreadful run continued as they were taken apart by a competitive Wellington side who look set to mount a serious promotion challenge.
Both sides were promoted last season, with Trojans as champions but whereas the Darley-based have improved, the Burley side appear to be stagnating and in need of fresh impetus.
Even leading scorer Gareth Goodison seemed affected by the malaise, missing two good early chances before the visitors went ahead. Industrious midfielder Iain Gibbons soon levelled with a superb finish. Wellington struck twice more before the break and it could have been worse for Trojans as 'keeper Michael Sant pulled of a stunning save, changing direction as a shot deflected.
Trojans began the second-half with much more purpose and reduced the arrears within two minutes of the re-start with a well worked move.
Daz Bates' long throw was flicked on by Gary Shankland and Andy Wheeler arrived on cue to rifle a right foot half volley past Smith.
The revival was shortlived as the visitors struck with four goals inside 15 minutes to seal victory. Bates picked up match point for his battling performance in midfield.
l On Saturday Trojans Reserves travel to Ripon Red Arrows, kick-off 2pm (Players should meet at the Cricket Club at 12.30pm).
