THE fourth Leeds Schools League race held last Saturday at Braim Wood School was extremely successful for pupils from St Mary's School, Menston.
The Year Seven boys came third in the team race with outstanding individual performances from Callum White and Hector Hall, who came first and third respectively.
Similarly, the Year Seven girls came second in their team event, with each counting runner improving on their previous best performances.
Team member individual placings were: Jodie Gregorczyk (7th), Oonagh Simms (9th), Jessica Andrews (12th), Sophie Fox (14th), Amber Davison (17th), Clare Lynch (19th) and Vicky Clayton (23rd).
In the Under-13s girls' competition Melissa Marwood came ninth and in the boys' race Sam Webster was eighth and John Crowe 34th. Unfortunately James Clayton had to retire from this race with torn knee ligaments.
The last race involving pupils from St Mary's was the Under-14s boys' race and this saw a very courageous performance by Tom Lee.
He went over on his ankle on the first lap of the course and despite advice from his parents and staff he ran on and finished second!
All pupils will be training hard for the last league race of the season to be held at Whitkirk Primary School on March 2.
Sam Webster (Year Eight), Tom Lee (Year Nine), Alex Fox (Year 10) and Naomi Johnson (Year 13), have all been selected to represent Leeds City in the forthcoming West Yorkshire Schools Cross-Country Championships at Batley Grammar School on February 2.
