Guiseley 1
Trafford 1
Guiseley again started in blistering style with a goal after 34 seconds only to let their opponents equalise and for the game to peter out into a dull draw.
This mid-table clash saw Guiseley get off to an excellent start when Ryan Senior drilled in a low shot which hit the far post.
Kevin Newhouse, restored to the team in place of Nicky Hey, was on hand to tap the ball in and give his side the lead.
This early promise again flattered to deceive as Guiseley squandered a series of chances.
Tough tackling midfielder Ben Thackwray retained his place in the starting line up but two early challenges saw him get a yellow card.
Andy Shuttleworth and Ryan Senior were presented with a succession of chances but none was converted. Shuttleworth shot into the side netting, Senior ballooned a shot over the bar and then he had an effort turned round the post.
Perhaps the best chance fell to Ian McLean when the full-back found himself on the end of Mark Stuart's free-kick and when it seemed easier to hit the target than miss McLean was left with a red face as he shot wide.
John Lamb made a couple of saves from Darren Emmett before the same player beat him with a free-kick just before the break when the wall parted. Emmett drilled in his kick from ten yards outside the penalty area.
The sides thus went in level at the break but Guiseley had an early opportunity to move ahead but Senior was given off-side in the first instance and then saw his shot from the edge of the penalty area drift just wide.
In a bid to pep up their attack Guiseley replaced Newhouse with Hey. Andy Shuttleworth produced another chance with an overhead kick and Lamb tipped over an Emmett free-kick.
Shuttleworth then had a chance to grab victory getting on the end of a long through ball but with only the 'keeper to beat he put his shot wide from 14 yards.
All in all a frustrating day for Guiseley who had enough chances to win. On this form they will not make the promotion play-offs manager Neil Parsley craves. They will certainly have to produce better finishing if they are to do that.
l On Saturday Guiseley visit Leek Town in the quarter-finals of the UniBond League Chairman's Cup. There will be a coach to Leek on which supporters will be welcome at a cost of £7 per head. Further details/bookings on 01943 879236.
