Rail commuters in the Bradford district faced fresh frustration today as a strike by Arriva Trains Northern stretched into a second day.
Train services were cancelled, bringing the network to a halt as the dispute about conductors' pay rumbled on.
But workers, who faced longer journeys into the city, appeared to have heeded advice to set off earlier or share transport as police said there were no reported problems on the roads.
A spokesman for AA Roadwatch said roads around Bradford had been quite clear.
He said: "It has been very smooth this morning with traffic levels very much as normal. The rush hour started slightly earlier at around 7.15am. It would usually be slightly later but people are taking advice and heading off a little earlier."
Extra buses services laid on yesterday by First Bradford between Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield were not continued today.
Brandon Jones, company spokeman, said: "The buses are running to timetable today. There are no duplicate operations, as we found yesterday the existing time table met our requirements."
Anybody who needs additional information about planning a journey today can call the Metro hotline on (0113) 2457676.
