Geoffrey Richmond today hailed Nicky Law as a "breath of fresh air" at Bradford City.

The Bantams have taken four league points from two games since Law took charge and go into tomorrow's home clash with Preston aiming to push further clear of the First Division danger zone.

Richmond has been delighted with the response from the dressing-room to the new manager, who took over from Jim Jefferies on New Year's Eve.

Lee Sharpe has rediscovered his best form while outsiders like Claus Jorgensen and Gareth Grant, who hardly featured under Jefferies, have been given their chance.

Richmond said: "The vibes have been extremely positive and I'm very encouraged indeed. I've had feedback from agents of our players and that has been revealing and very complimentary.

"A key part in the decision to offer Nicky the job was the contrast between the attitude of the Nicky Laws of this world who are on the way up and the attitude of certain managers who might be on the way down.

"There is a contrast which is really a breath of fresh air. His enthusiasm is infectious as is his workrate, commitment and ideas - it's all very positive."

Law's playing record was based around the lower divisions but that was not held against him when he became the seventh boss in Richmond's eight years as chairman.

Richmond added: "There is a list of managers over the years who have not been great players but have made great managers. Graham Taylor is a good example.

"There's also another list of great players who have failed as managers.

"Nicky has got the respect of the dressing room by stating clearly that he will not be influenced by who a player is. Whoever has got the shirt, subject to them doing the business, will keep it.

"That was the case with Claus who was brought in for an emergency, did fantastically well and kept his place for the Barnsley game. What happens next, who knows?

"Benito Carbone is available for selection against Preston but even his place is not guaranteed unless Nicky Law is sufficiently impressed with what he sees in training. You have got to earn it and that's how it should be.

"And with the injury situation easing, Nicky is going to have the luxury of having to select the team rather than the team selecting itself."

lCity are once again running a cut-price admission offer for season-ticket holders. They can buy up to four tickets for adults and senior citizens at £5 each. Juniors cost £2.
