Bradford Park Avenue 7, Blyth Spartans 1 -
Avenue progressed to the semi-finals of the UniBond League Challenge Cup with a record victory at Horsfall Stadium last night over Premier Division rivals Blyth Spartans.
It was the first time the Bradford club had hit seven goals since they returned to the pyramid system but the evening was marred by a double sending off seven minutes from time.
Home striker Jason Maxwell and the visitor's Justin Keegan were dismissed after Keegan struck out at the Avenue man and Maxwell was singled out by the referee's assistant for allegedly spitting.
Maxwell, who netted twice, denied the allegation and had to be led off the field by team mates with blood pouring from a gash on his chin.
Avenue opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Lee Potter met Ian Richards' cross with an eight-yard header.
Two minutes later it was 2-0, Dean Calcutt whipped in Avenue's first corner of the match and Hayward tucked in shot in from a tight angle.
A mesmerising run from Calcutt ended with a Maxwell shot and goal and Avenue were four goals in front by half time after Hayward converted a Calcutt cross.
Heyward got his hat-trick three minutes after the break and it was 6-0 when Maxwell scored from a Calcutt centre.
Hayward got the seventh with a header before Blyth grabbed their consolation nine minutes from time.
l Farsley Celtic beat Stocksbridge PS 1-0 away in their re-arranged Division One fixture.
