Burscough 1
Guiseley Reserves 3
Guiseley Reserves travelled over the Pennines in mid-week to visit Burscough. First team manager Neil Parsley and fellow first team squad members Nicky Hey and Peter Sumner had joined the Reserves for this game after sitting on the bench on the Saturday.
The pace was frantic with a young and fit Burscough side being one of the few sides to have notched a win against Guiseley this season. Guiseley however were out for revenge.
Goalkeeper Tom Morgan took an early knock to his ankle as he came out to make an excellent block. At the other end Lee Reilly had a shot blocked before Guiseley took the lead with Nicky Hey forcing the ball home. Reilly then extended his scoring run to seven successive games with a well-taken penalty.
Early in the second-half Burscough pulled a goal back and the game was balanced on a knife edge. Centre-back Mark Whiteley and left-back Cory Larkin were outstanding in repelling the Burscough threat but there was little happening in midfield. Out wide James Elliott and Phil Atkinson got stronger as the game went on and centre-back Danny McCartney started to get forward to good effect. He put one effort from a corner just over, Nicky Hey had an effort cleared off the line and then Phil Atkinson swung a corner over and McCartney was there to make it 3-1.
Steve Hall and Simon Tweddle replaced Sumner and Price as Guiseley played out time.
