Volunteers at the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway are on track to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee in fine style.

An historic railway carriage, which was converted into a luxury lounge bar vehicle for 1977's Silver Jubilee celebrations, is to receive a major re-fit in time to join in with this year's Golden Jubilee.

Originally a standard 64 seat ex-BR coach, it had been used as office accommodation at the York Carriage Works for British Rail Engineering Ltd before being purchased by Keighley & Worth Valley Railway and converted into a luxurious lounge bar vehicle for use alongside its existing Pullman car.

As the project was completed in the Queen's Silver Jubilee Year, it was named the 'Jubilee Bar' and finished in the traditional brown and cream Pullman livery.

It has seen regular service on dining trains and other special occasions.

The restoration is again being carried out by K&WVR volunteers. Carriage & Wagon department spokesman Paul Brown said: "With its plush lounge area and full length bar, the coach is a real gem.

"It is most fitting that the work should be done in this, the Queen's Golden Jubilee Year."

Visitors will be able to see the result on Saturday, June 22, when the coach will be used on a special dining train in celebration of the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Further details of this and all other K&WVR dining trains may be obtained from the chief steward on 01706 878512.
