A 16-year-old boy has been locked up after making a personal apology to a Court for his part in last summer's disturbances in Bradford.
The teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, threw stones at police officers and rolled a beer barrel towards them during violent clashes in White Abbey Road last July.
During a hearing at the city's Youth Court, he told magistrates: "I apologise for what I did. It was stupid and I should not have been there."
The teenager, who pleaded guilty to a charge of riot, was made the subject of a detention and training order for 18 months. He will spend the first half of the sentence in secure accommodation.
After his release, he will then serve the remaining nine months under supervision in the community.
Chairman of the bench Angela Barker told him that he had participated in throwing missiles and causing "wholesale public disturbance and damage."
Mitigating, Sara Young said that he met his friend during the early evening and went to White Abbey Road out of "adolescent curiosity". She said he did not stir up trouble and played a small part in the riots, throwing three stones.
"He was not aiming them at police officers. There was no intention to hurt any police officers."
