Keighley Albion 14

Rochdale Mayfield 18

ADAM LILLEY had a late try disallowed which cost Albion the chance to make cup progress.

Scores were level at 14-14 when Ben Farrar and Neil Jordan combined to put Lilley over, but he was ruled to have put a foot in touch behind the goal line.

Rochdale hit back with a try of their own to snatch victory.

The thrilling encounter began with Albion's man of the match, play-maker Jon Gwilliam, hoisting a huge bomb which the alert Kris Kirk scooped up to score. He added the conversion to secure an early lead.

Albion were penalised for talking back to the referee and Rochdale took advantage with a deep penalty kick followed by an unconverted try for scrum half Adam Brown.

Albion also gave away a silly penalty for holding down in front of the posts to tie up the scores.

Gwilliam added two drop goals either side of a Mayfield try and Craig Platt scored again for the visitors, but Albion were looking dangerous espite being 1408 down at the break.

Simon Marsden was tackled into touch just short of the line as Albion opened the second half in determined mood. He was injured in the tackle replaced by Mark Adams whose return from injury was short-lived as he was off again after only five minutes of action.

Albion drew level when Gary Boocock's break set up Matthew Robinson to send Ed Billings storming in. Kirk converted the difficult goal.

Lilly's 'try' was disallowed and Mayfield hit back with Diggle scoring another quality try which put them through into the next round.

Both Kris Kirk and Steve Wrench had big games but it was Jon Gwilliam who took Albion's man of the match award in a classic cup tie.

n This weekend Albion are at Cougar Park in a rearranged fixture against Milford Marlins (ko 2:00pm).

Liversedge 22

Silsden Park Rangers 18.

Silsden park Rangers were so near to a first win since September, but were pipped 22-18 at Liversedge in Pennine Division Three.

They had a dream start on their first attack when John Williams went to the blind side, and good hands from Phil Lane and Chris Suttcliffe resulted with Williams diving over in the corner.

Liversedge hit back with a try and a conversion which gave them a slender 6-4 advantage.

Silsden's forwards were tremendous with huge efforts from Stuart Johnson and Mark Stott keeping the home side on the back foot. This gave the backs some much needed space and it was Phil Lane who came up with the next score, after coming onto the ball with speed and powering his way over through several defenders. John Williams converted and Rangers were leading 10-6.

Player-coach Dave Webster was in tremendous form notching up the man of the match award along with most tackles for the Cobbydalers, and the other players seemed to respond.

Silsden increased their lead further when Paul Friers used Mark Kent as a foil and created a try for James Feather.

Rangers looked good value for an 18-6 half-time lead.

Liversedge hit back shortly after the break with two quick tries to keep the game in the balance.

A welcome sight for Rangers was the introduction of former coach Tony Williams who worked hard when he came off the bench. Phil Lane showed the Liversedge cover a clean pair of heels to score in the left hand corner.

Liversedge ended the scoring with another converted try to win the match despite a late Silsden rally.

Although it was another defeat for Rangers they are improving week by week and will hope to end the bad run at Sowerby Spartans this weekend.
