Stuart McCall is ready to carry on playing.

The City skipper is expected to leave Valley Parade at the end of his

testimonial season with an emotional send-off.

But the 37-year-old, whose one-year contract is up in June, believes he is still fit and hungry enough to do a job for another club.

McCall goes into battle at Wimbledon tomorrow declaring that every player has an extra reason to finish the campaign with a flourish, including himself.

He said: "I don't feel at this stage I need to prove anything to anyone. I just go out to play because I still enjoy the game.

"I want to do my best for Bradford for the rest of the season and then see what's on offer. The gardening job in the post office window is still up for grabs and I've got my name down for that!

"I've not heard anything from Bradford and I think it's highly unlikely that I will. But I'll wait and see what options are available in the summer.

"A couple of months ago I was carrying a twinge in my knee and thought it was my body telling me to slow down and call it a day.

"But that's been shaken off and I've enjoyed the last six weeks and think I've played reasonably well. I still enjoy going into training and while that continues I feel I've got a little bit to offer.

"At which level I don't know. But if you find the right position, right team and right level, I can continue.

"Everybody here is either playing for a new deal, playing because they are going to get away at the end of the season or playing to be in the manager's plans for next year.

"We are professionals paid to play football but there are other reasons to do well above personal pride."

McCall is among seven City players whose current deals are up in the summer and only Mark Bower is expected to be kept on.

Manager Nicky Law said: "There could be 800 to 1,000 free transfers in the summer and those players have to do well now to either gain another contract or get somewhere near the top of the wanted list.

"It's going to be very difficult for players this year because money is short and those earning decent wages are going to get a fraction of that."

l Law has hinted that City are in the chase for Mansfield hitman Chris Greenacre after Luton manager Joe Kinnear claimed a pre-contract deal had already been done.

Law said: "Greenacre will obviously be a very good Bosman transfer. His contract is up in the summer and us along with plenty of other clubs would be interested in a player of that calibre.

"You don't score 25, 20 and 20 goals three years on the trot if you aren't a good player."

But Law has rubbished reports linking Mansfield's former Bradford Park Avenue defender Martin Pemberton with the club.
